Things To Do If You Need To Sell Your Home

Selling your home is a bit like going to an interview – the first impressions are created by your presentation. As a seller, you need to give importance to your presentation if you want potential buyers to flock around and give your home some thought. If your home isn’t selling, you may need to take a long, hard look at the presentation.

“Curb appeal” is a popular term in the housing industry, and can be of help when it comes to fixing up your presentation. Good curb appeal entices people driving in their cars and passing by your house to stop their vehicles and give your home a second, or even third look. Plant some pretty flowering annuals leading to the front door – particularly yellow ones, as they seem to work better in terms of ‘selling magic’!

Next, make sure that your entrance is neat too. Don’t turn off potential buyers with an ugly, unpainted and unvarnished front door. Once inside, plants, paintings and rugs can change your entrance into a warm and inviting area. Maintain the cleanliness of your interior as you do the outdoor area.

Different buyers find different parts of your home interesting depending on their tastes. Your goal is to draw the buyers’ attention to those features. Even the smallest detail or feature could make or break a sale, so give attention to features like your fireplace or the wooden floor. You can also make your home look more appealing by rearranging furniture and decorating it in such a way that buyers are enticed to look at certain features.

Never think that buyers don’t look inside cupboards, in the garage, into the shed – they look everywhere. Clean up the aforementioned areas and other nooks and crannies, even if it may seem like a chore. One benefit of this is not having to keep so much junk and cleaning up while you are still in your old home and haven’t sold it yet. Most people use their garages for extra storage, but if it’s untidy, buyers will be less inclined to buy the house. Clean out any tools you no longer use from your garden shed – this would include broken tools especially. Clear out the junk and arrange the remaining items neatly.

These are all effective strategies to make your home start selling when it isn’t. The alternative is to lower your price, or wait until the right buyer comes along. Before you know it, your house will indeed be selling like hotcakes due to the much-improved presentation. You might even consider hiring a staging consultant to come in and ‘decorate’ your home for show days.
